Is Pitbull Ban In India – Keeping 23 foreign breed dogs, including American Bulldog and Rottweiler, which are proving to be a threat to people’s lives, has been banned in any state. After importing any of these breed dogs, their breeding in the country has also been declared completely illegal. Now those who have kept dogs of these breeds will have to get them sterilized, so that the number can be prevented from increasing.

Recently, videos of people becoming victims of foreign breed dogs in the country went viral rapidly. The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy of the Government of India was constantly receiving complaints. The latest case is from Delhi, where a foreign breed dog attacked and killed an innocent girl in the NDMC area. The Dairy Ministry formed a committee under the chairmanship of the Animal Husbandry Commissioner. Different organizations and experts were included in the committee. Among the foreign breed dogs identified by the committee, 24 foreign breed dogs including American Bulldog, Rottweiler have been put in the restricted category, these have been called banned dogs. Now import, breeding and buying and selling of any of these breed dogs in the country will be illegal.

Incidents

A girl was seriously injured after being bitten by a pitbull in Delhi. Her leg was broken in three places, and she had to stay in hospital for 17 days.

A few days ago, a man provoked his pitbull to attack his neighbour in the capital.

A week ago, a pitbull in Ghaziabad seriously injured a 10-year-old boy.

In December, a 70-year-old woman was seriously injured by a pitbull.

In another case, a gym owner’s pitbull in Lucknow killed his mother.

In January this year, a man was attacked by his pet Rottweiler in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The dog bit its owner and tore flesh from his arms and legs, causing over 60 wounds. According to India Today, the attack happened when the man remembered that he had forgotten to feed the dog during the day and went to feed it around midnight. The owner was saved by his son when the hungry Rottweiler turned aggressive and started biting him.

Similarly, there was a seven-year-old boy who was attacked by a pit bull in Mahendra Park in northwest Delhi when he was playing around his residence.

According to the Times of India, in November 2023, a 65-year-old NRI who had gone to visit his son in Bengaluru was attacked by a Rottweiler in Malleswaram.

Similarly, the dog also attacked a 60-year-old man who was walking. A case was registered against the dog owner under Section 289 of the IPC.

In August 2022, a pitbull injured a 30-year-old woman in Gurugram while she was on a walk with its owner. According to PTI, the woman suffered serious injuries on her face and head during the incident.

A child in Meerut suffered serious injuries in a pitbull attack. People nearby opened the child’s jaw with a screwdriver to rescue him.
