Hiking Cascade Pass

Sedately climbing a little less than 1,800 feet in 3.6 miles, it is the perfect hike to show new hikers the extraordinary places their feet can take them. The epic scenery begins before you even hit the trail.

No place for swimming. Helpful? There is a picnic area right on the river, near the parking lot. You can enter the river here, which has several small pools for wading in, but really swimming isn't possible.

General Information. Directions: From Blacksburg, VA: Follow US 460 west for 13 miles to Pembroke. Turn right onto SR 623. Go 4 miles to the Cascades parking lot.

Can you swim at Cascades Falls? There are signs that caution against swimming at the Cascades Falls because of the undertow, however, you can wade into the water safely.

Marin County Parks Open Space Leash Policy: Dogs on leash are welcome to enjoy trails. Due to sensitive wildlife (endangered Foothill Yellow-Legged Frogs), dogs are not allowed off-leash or in the streams (neither are people) in this particular area. Always follow posted rules.

How long is Cascade Loop? ›

Because the Cascade Loop is 440-miles long and crosses all manner of terrain, you might very well find yourself out of reception on occasion. Plan for black-out zones.

Difficulty: The lower Nature Conservancy Trail is a moderate 4.2-mile hike, gaining 1200 feet of elevation. The upper trail to Cascade Head is an easy 1-mile hike that gains 160 feet, and the trip to Harts Cove is a moderate 5.4-mile hike that loses 900 feet of elevation.

Altogether, the trails make up 2.3 miles of paved pathways. This unique urban park also doubles as a stormwater facility, as it was designed to offer relief to nearby areas during major rainstorms.

Cascade Falls, at almost 290 meters (950 feet) tall, is an impressive waterfall to visit! The falls are the namesake of Cascade Mountain and the third largest waterfall in Alberta.

There is no camping allowed directly at Cascade Pass but there are several campsites nearby: Pelton Basin, Sahale Glacier, Basin Creek and Johannesburg. There are numerous campsites along the trail to Stehekin as well.
